Summer Institute Research Fellow
Simon Alam is a Summer Institute Research Fellow and is a rising senior at UC Berkeley studying political science. At Cal, he conducts research under the Data Discovery program where he partnered with the National Resources Defense Council. Additionally, he scrapes newspaper data from the Jim Crow era to trace the origins of police and civilian homicide in the United States alongside a team of undergraduates. He also develops technology to better public health issues as a fellow under the Coleman Fung Institute for Engineering Leadership. His interests are widespread, but his ultimate goal of applying data science to social good is one that he is excited to develop at the California Policy Lab!
