Report: Increasing Take-up of EITC
The California Policy Lab worked with the California Franchise Tax Board, Golden State Opportunity, and the California Department of Social Services on a series of experiments to test if “nudges” (via text message and letters) to more than one million low-income Californians could increase the number of people who claim the valuable state and federal Earned Income Tax Credits. Predicting and Preventing Homelessness in L.A.: New Report
In December, the California Policy Lab and the University of Chicago Poverty Lab released a new report showing how Los Angeles County can use predictive analytics to proactively intervene and help support people who are at the highest risk of homelessness. CPL Speaking at PACE Conference
Johanna Lacoe, research director at the California Policy Lab’s Berkeley office, will speak at the annual Policy Analysis for California Education conference about CPL’s partnership with the California Student Aid Commission to design interventions to more effectively communicate with high school students about financial aid and to increase take-up of Cal Grants. NYT Interview with Margot Kushel: What would it take to end homelessness?
Dr. Kushel, the director of the UCSF Center for the Study of Vulnerable Populations and of the Benioff Homelessness and Housing Initiative, was recently interviewed by the New York Times “California Today” newsletter. Dr. Kushel is also an affiliated faculty expert with CPL, and is a co-principal investigator on a CPL grant from the University of California Office of the President.
