April 14th, 2022 update: The research team has identified an error in how some 2020 domestic entrances to California were calculated. In particular, data and figures reflecting single-year changes, between 2019 and 2020, potentially understate new entrants to the state. Please see the April 2022 errata for more details. In April 2022, CPL released an updated version of our December 2021 policy brief, which included corrected estimates of domestic entrances to California through the third quarter of 2021. CPL also released new estimates showing migration patterns for the fourth quarter of 2021, which are not impacted by our earlier error in calculating entrances. Because we have released new and updated estimates, we are retiring this policy brief from our website to prevent any confusion about this research.
